Birthday Intentions

By | Judy's Blog | No Comments

Birthdays are always an extraordinary opportunity for personal reflection on the past and to refresh intentions for the future. I have used this time around my birthday to remember all that has happened in the past year that has brought me fully into the light of this day where I officially mark my 51st trip around the sun. After much contemplation on the ups and downs of the last year and my ability to deal with the cards that life has dealt, I have given a great deal more thought as to how I would ideally like to ride the waves of the upcoming tides in this next year. The following are the intentions that I set for myself as I ease forward into this next chapter of exploration in life.

These intentions are a means by which I will come to deepen my relationship first with myself then with others in my life, through mindful exploration physically, emotionally and spiritually so that I am challenged to continuously evolve into the best version of myself that I can possibly be.

In sharing this with you it is my profound hope that you will support me in holding me more accountable in this endeavour. I intend to:

    • Live a life of Gratitude. To begin and end each day with an expression of gratitude is a fantastic way to live. I have come to the conclusion that being grateful and expressing gratitude, in the appropriate time and place is a challenge. There are people in my life that need to hear my expression of gratitude out loud more often. Therefore I want to learn how to be more skillful in expressing gratitude throughout the day.
    • Cultivate a practice of self-compassion. One of the great qualities necessary for every human being besides a generous and attentive heart and mind is a sense of self-compassion. I believe that it is vitally important to cultivate spaciousness in daily life. A place where you can pay close attention to the world that is untainted by worry, tension or stress. It is essential that each day we carve out a moment that is wholly our own. A moment where we can actually surrender to a silence so profound that we can actually hear our own heartbeat or voices other than our own and we can pay attention to the vast beauty of the world.
    • Be accountable for life and my voice. I am not a victim. I am responsible for my life and my journey. I have a voice and I will not allow my voice to be silenced or diminished by another. I dedicate my life and my voice to healing myself and others. I long to cultivate a generous, attentive heart and a gentle mindful voice that can bring light to the wounds of others. May I recognize the moments in my life where I need to speak freely and mindfully from a place of compassion and may those in my life come to understand and appreciate the courage it takes to move into this place of vulnerable accountability.
    • Always do my best. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.” ~Marianne Williamson. The truth is that nothing in this life is simple nor is it static. We all ride the big wave of life each day. We navigate our path by making choices and living the consequences of those choices which can sometimes feel joyous and congruent with our aspirations; however we can also have times of despair and feel disconnected from our relationships or a sense of separateness in our life. In my contemplation of this, I have come to see in myself that I do not always truly give one hundred percent effort in my daily responsibilities or relationships (if I am to be completely honest). In saying that, I admit that if I maintain this intention I surely cannot hold anyone but myself accountable for any outcome as my thoughts, words, and actions would be the only measuring stick available to me for comparison. Ah, but then we would have to discuss judgement and that is a topic for another day…..

Being mindful and setting intentions are an important part of allowing ourselves to evolve and continue making positive and meaningful changes in our lives. What are your intentions as you move forward this year?
